The Utah Legislature is, at the time of creating this webpage, working on a constitutional amendment to the Utah Constitution. The Utah Supreme Court's recent decision in League of Women Voters of Utah et al v Utah State Legislature et al produced some serious concern as to the balance of power in Utah. From my perspective, the issues addressed in the case do need to be the focus of a constitutional amendment, but I also believe that this case is simply part of a larger issue that is concerning many people, that of whether or not they can properly check and balance government officials through elections.
To correct the issues, we need to address the root of many of the issues. The letter I drafted below provides an explanation about these issues and a path forward to helping give Utah a strong system of checks and balances. This will enable Utah to operate at its highest potential if each source of power is properly checked and balanced.
